IBI Group staff joined high-ranking Canadian officials, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier Kathleen Wynn, Mayor John Tory, and many special guests June 10 to take part in the official ribbon cutting ceremony for Women’s College Hospital in downtown Toronto. The event marks a new era in patient care and advancements in women’s health.

Beginning in 2010, IBI Group acted as one of the key consultants for the $460-million LEED Silver-certified redevelopment of Women’s College Hospital. Delivery of the project was an incredibly complex undertaking, with multi-phased construction and multiple occupancies on a constrained downtown Toronto site in an operational hospital.

“Among our key objectives was the desire to increase the hospital’s physical presence and engagement within the community, said David Wood, Project Architect. “We were able to maximize future flexibility and adaptability, combining thorough research and careful planning of multi-use exam/treatment rooms for different care teams inside the iconic building.”

The hospital will provide a leading-edge model of ambulatory care with women-focused services in an environment that is welcoming, inspiring, healthy and supportive for all users, patients and staff.

Described as a hospital intended to keep people out of the hospital, this is a state-of-the-art facility that focuses on consolidating primary care, chronic disease management, surgical services, diagnostics, and mental health programs, all delivered on an ambulatory and out-patient basis.
